I wish you werenвЂ™t tied to your Bethesda login, but thatвЂ™s a grievance I can live with. The controls are intuitive, the graphics are crisp, and the soundtrack is still excellent. Between the five campaigns, the console mods, and the multiplayer, this is a lot of bang for your buck. I ran into a slight snag running it on the PS5, but that was it. On that front, this is a fantastic release. Rather than score the game itself, what follows is an evaluation of the remaster. Once I moved back to my PS4, I was up and running almost immediately.

This is as good as a 25 year old game could be expected to look. If nothing else, every texture is extra crisp, and the framerate is proper smooth. But thatвЂ™s the whole point! The first Quake has a soundtrack cooked up by Nine Inch Nails, which IвЂ™d forgotten about until very recently. I was back to my old skill levels in no time, meager as they were. Otherwise, playing with a modern controller was seamless. I never got so annoyed or disrupted that I shut it off, but I never felt like it helped me out, either. TheyвЂ™reвЂ¦ fine? Aiming by moving the controller isnвЂ™t useful on its own, but it sort of supplements the standard aiming system. This also meant I had access to the gyroscopic controls.
